The one with all the orange

Next tuesday our Queen will abdicate, and her oldest son Willem-Alexander will ascend the throne. Even though our flag is red, white and blue, the colour orange is special to us 'Dutchies'. When our national team plays soccer we dress up in orange and on april 30th, when we celebrate the queen's birthday, lots of orange can be seen. Why orange? Willem van Oranje (= Dutch for orange) became the Prince of Oranje in 1544, at only 11 years old! Enough history, on with the good stuff! Orange is far from my favourite colour, the only thing orange I own, is a bottle of nailpolish. But these Etsy finds might change my opinion on this sunny colour.

The one with the trip to Groningen

Yesterday I went to Groningen with my mom, our destination was the Groninger Museum. I forgot the duration of the trip: 2,5 to get there and 2,5 to get back home. I was very happy with my fully charged iPod and a good book. Before visiting the museum, we took a little walk around the city and were very pleased to find a flea market at the town square. I found some great things, but unfortunately, the prices weren't very flea market-y, so they stayed in Groningen.
At the museum is currently an exhibition named Nordic Art, which is an overview of 19th and 20th century paintings from Northern Europe. My favourites were the paintings by Albert Edelfelt and Vilhelm Hammershoi. Besides this exhibition, the Museum has it's own collection, consisting of photography by Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn and duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Next up at the museum, from the end of may on, will be an exhibition co-curated by Ai Weiwei. I hope the time it takes to get to the museum will be forgotten soon, so I want to go there again for this upcoming exhibition.

The one with the birthday

For the next year I will be 31, and even though I am not particularly fond of my own birthday, I thought I might celebrate with a little Roald Dahl poem. Because, who doesn't like macaroons, balloons & baboons?

The one with all the mad men

Don Draper is back! Did you watch the season premiere? I am waiting, and saving up a couple of episodes, so I can have a mini Mad Men marathon. Because of mister Drapers return to television, this weekly collection of lovely things is all about Mad Men. Don't you just love that Joan print?

The one with the chocolate dates

Chocolate is one of the things I love most. I also happen to love dates, so dates dipped in chocolate are a tiny piece of heaven to me. For this I used Medjool dates and extra dark chocolate. It's a bonus that dates happen to be full of vitamins and minerals, and they are a perfect source of iron. They are super easy to make, just melt the chocolate and dip the dates. Cool them and you're done!
